Almost everyone who gets a callback feels exactly what you are feeling right now. • The technologist simply needs a clearer or magnified view.

What Your Follow-Up Visit Will Actually Be Like

So much of the fear lives in the unknown, so let us take that part away. A callback is a diagnostic appointment, and it is usually quick and gentle:

• A few additional or magnified mammogram views of the one small area in question

• Often a breast ultrasound, which is painless and uses no radiation, to look more closely

• In many cases, the radiologist reviews your images while you are still there — so you may walk out with answers the very same day

• Only rarely, if a finding truly warrants it, is a biopsy suggested. This is the exception, not the expectation.
